The Quiet Power of "Little By Little

If your workplace is anything like mine right now, it’s assessment season. That period where we gather proof of our performance, package it up, and present it. And I’ll be honest: no matter how well I’ve done, this process always makes me pause.

For a moment, I look at the blank document meant to hold my achievements and think, “Did I even work this period? Was I even walking?”

It’s a funny feeling. You know you’ve been moving, bit by bit, every single day. You’ve solved problems, sent emails, finished projects, helped colleagues. Yet, when asked to showcase it, it can suddenly feel invisible like you have to defend your very existence at your desk.

But here’s the powerful shift I’m choosing to make this year. I’m refusing to see this as a defense. I’m choosing to see it as a celebration.

This process is my once-a-year (or every few years) invitation to stop, look back, and truly see the path I’ve walked. It forces me to ask the big questions:

  • What was I hired to do?

  • Have I moved that mission forward?

  • What have I accidentally become brilliant at that wasn’t even in my original job description?

Sometimes, you find you’ve taken on so much more than you started with. That’s not a failure it’s silent, powerful growth. This assessment is the moment to name it, to claim it, and to decide: should this be formally recognized, or should I gently hand it back to focus on my core magic?

It’s also a golden opportunity. An opportunity to get clear feedback, to align with your team’s vision, and yes, to courageously discuss your growth and your worth.

So, if you’re in the same boat, feeling that weird mix of anxiety and reflection, join me in this reframe.

Don’t just list your tasks. Narrate your journey. Highlight the problem you solved quietly, the idea you championed, the way you grew. This isn’t just about proving you worked. It’s about proving how you shined, how you evolved, and how you contributed your unique energy.

Little by little, every day, you built something. Now, let’s gather the evidence and celebrate it—all at once.

You haven’t just been walking. You’ve been climbing. And this is your view from the heights.
